Mitchell lands on CCSDS podium at The REV
During two nights of COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) racing at The REV in Monroe, Louisiana, Jon Mitchell grabbed a pair of top-10 finishes and nearly picked up his second victory of the season.
On Friday, Mitchell was strong from the start in his W&W Timber No. 5 Super Late Model. First, he topped qualifying for the 16-car field at the 3/8-mile red-clay oval. He went on to win his heat race from the pole, then rolled off from the top spot in the 30-lap, $5,000-to-win feature. Despite not leading a lap, he was in the runner-up position for 29 circuits and ultimately finished third behind Morgan Bagley and Kyle Beard. Fourth place went to Clay Stuckey, and Jon Kirby took fifth.
Another $5,000 was on the line on Saturday, bringing 18 CCSDS teams to Monroe. Mitchell struggled in qualifying but gained two spots in his heat to finish fourth. He started eighth in the 30-lap A-Main and turned in a seventh-place result.
Mitchell, the 2012 COMP Cams Super Dirt Series champion, is sixth in the point standings.
