Mitchell concludes CCSDS Labor Day slate with top 10 at Springfield
Jon Mitchell followed the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) to Missouri on Labor Day weekend for a trio of shows in the Show-Me State. Along the way, he picked up his 11th top-10 finish of the season overall.
On Friday and Saturday, the CCSDS contingent visited Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland for the 11th annual Ron Jenkins Memorial at the 3/8-mile “Diamond of Dirt Tracks.” Forty-five CCSDS Super Late Models were at the facility on Friday, while 46 filled the pits on Saturday evening.
The Friday program saw Mitchell drive his W&W Timber No. 5 Super Late Model from fifth to third in his heat race, starting him 10th in the 30-lap, $7,000-to-win feature. He recorded a DNF and came home in the 22nd spot.
On Saturday, Mitchell again took third in his heat. He rolled off 12th to begin the $12,000-to-win main event and finished 14th in the 40-lapper.
The next night, the CCSDS slate shifted to the quarter-mile Springfield Raceway for the Rex McCroskey Memorial. Mitchell was one of 38 CCSDS competitors on hand for the $6,064-to-win program.
After once again taking third in his heat race at Springfield, Mitchell started 10th in the 31-lap A-Main. He advanced one position and finished ninth.
Mitchell currently sits sixth in the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series point standings.
