Sooner State Showdown starts for Mitchell

Jon Mitchell raced at Colcord, Oklahoma’s Arrowhead Speedway from Thursday through Saturday in events that featured the best of both the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) and the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series.

On Thursday, a $10,000-to-win CCSDS-sanctioned show brought 39 Super Late Models to the state-of-the-art 1/3-mile track. Mitchell recorded a DNF in his heat race and did not start his B-Main or the 40-lap main event in his Bar-J Transport No. 5 Super Late Model.

Friday and Saturday featured programs co-sanctioned by the World of Outlaws and COMP Cams Super Dirt Series. Forty cars took part in the Friday program, while 41 were signed in on Saturday.

In Friday action, Mitchell was eighth in his heat and seventh in his Last Chance Showdown, ending his evening in advance of the 40-lap, $12,000-to-win feature.

Saturday’s finale saw Mitchell finish seventh in both his heat and last-chance race. He rolled off 24th to start the $20,000-to-win main event and turned in a 20th-place result in the 50-lapper.

After the Arrowhead weekend, Mitchell moved into sixth in the CCSDS point standings.
