October 29th, 2011 - Jon made the trip to Jones Motor Speedway (Chatham, Louisiana) on Saturday night for the annual Spooky 50. Twenty-four Super Late Models entered the unsanctioned event, and after not making up much ground in heat race action, he would start 16th on the grid for the $2,500-to-win feature event. Despite starting deep in the field Mitchell would mount a great charge through the running order as he advanced eleven positions on his way to a fifth place finish at the checkered flag behind race winner, Bubba Mullins, Timothy Culp, Allen Tippen, and Jeff Chanler. In the feature Mitchell would race as high as the second spots before accidentally pulling all of his remaining tear-offs from his helmet. As a result, he had to lay back some so that he could see, and he would see a potential win turn into a third place finish behind race winner, Garrett Alberson, and Patrick Daniel.
